Common errors and their fixes while WP setup on dedicated host

Dedicated hosting is a very common thing among website owners. Generally large websites have the advantage of using multiple resources like a big bandwidth and server CPU. Shared hosting platforms do not have this advantage.

Free? Forget it!

Looking for a free web host is not at all a good idea. Identifying a free reliable web host is a tough job.

The WordPress process is believed to be simple by many people, but many web experts find it an intimidating job. The “5 Minute Install” can get things go wrong in many ways. Here are some of the common errors made by web experts in this job and their solutions:

Compatibility of the Web Host

Many a times, some web hosting services are not at all compatible with WordPress due to some reason. Sometimes scripting support is required for PHP and often SQL access is blocked. But both of these are very important while using WordPress. If the hosting company does not support these two, there is no other option but to quit WordPress.

Some web hosts have a solution to this. Like Fantastico, some installer can be searched for which automatically installs WordPress. The hosting company might have modified WordPress to boost up scripting and database support in controlled environment.

My SQL setup

People try to upload WordPress hoping that it will work in a miraculous way. But this is not so. According to the user instruction manual for the “5 minute Install”, the SQL server information must be provided. So a complete database of the SQL with username and password is to be created, allowing WordPress to create a table in it.

By default setting WordPress uses “localhost” for selection of SQL location. Some web servers have separate machines that handle the different MySQL databases and provide an IP address or domain name for reference. The “localhost” can be replaced with the individual SQL server location in the “config.php” file.

Other solutions

Many free hosts advertise to have a free WordPress auto installer. This is just a simple trap to users to buy the premium hosting. When the install is activated, the installation starts. But in the mid-way, the user is caught up with the message of trying the option later. It is not a co- incidence. Free hosting services should not be hoped for getting a free installation of WordPress. To get out of the hassles of free web hosting, it is better to buy a host and get a premium quality.

There are many forums which all over the Internet which deal with WordPress installation issues. In fact the site like itself has a dedicated forum for the public for submissions of their issues and complaints.
