What Does an Architect Really Do?

Are you thinking about going to school to study architecture? Or are you simply interested in the trade? Maybe you’re entertaining the idea of hiring one for your business or home. No matter what your reasoning is, you’ll find that there are a few different explanations as to not only what an architect is, but what they do on a day to day basis.

What is an architect?

An architect, such as Jon Bunge at Design + Build, is a licensed professional who either builds houses and homes, office buildings, skyscrapers, cities and even ships. The most common type of architect that you’ll find are the ones that work on designing dream homes and office buildings for their clients. During the building process, the architect itself does not participate in the hands on construction work, but instead oversees the process, making sure that each part of it is completed to the design. After the building or structure is complete you’ll find that the architect then goes back through the plans as well as takes a walkthrough of the building to make sure that everything is completed correctly. This review thus ends the process.

When looking at the true definition of an architect, you’ll find that it is comprised of the practice of architecture which consists of services in connection with both the aesthetic design of the buildings themselves and the aesthetic design of the space within the site that surrounds those said buildings.

What do they do for work?

Essentially speaking, architects spend their days either designing a plan or following up on its current production. As these plans vary in size and complication, you may find that some architects will spend months designing a building before presenting it to their clients. When designing a structure of any sort, architects must follow rules and regulations. They must also make sure that they are up to date on the codes and the needed permits; otherwise their design could be in vain.

How can you become an architect?

In order to become a licensed architect and seek active work, there are a few things you’ll need to do and have first. The first thing you’ll need is a degree. Generally, the degree that you’ll want to seek out is a professional Bachelor’s or Master’s degree that is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, otherwise known as the NAAB. You’ll also need to complete some sort of Intern Development Program. Once that is all done, you’ll then need to obtain your license in order to work. This is true for all states within the U.S.

As more and more people become interested in the world of home and structure design, you’ll find that the interest in architecture is increasing at a pretty consistent and fast pace. This is because more and more people are finding the fun in design, both inside and outside of a building. Home architecture is becoming extremely popular as more and more people are gaining interest in modern technologies that are used in the process today. Most research details architecture as showing great job growth within the next few years, helping to make the field even more appealing.
