5 Tips You Should Know Before Preparing for a Mold Inspection

A mold problem is a concern for every building. Mold is found in damp building materials where it often appears like stains. It is accompanied by a musty smell, which indicates microbial growth even when there is no visible growth. If mold grows considerably in homes or offices, it can contribute to poor indoor air quality.
And not just the problem of air quality or stains, mold can also have devastating effects on the health of the persons coming in contact with the mold spores. That’s why an immediate inspection and its removal are so important.

5 Tips You Should Know Before Preparing for a Mold Inspection 1

Before the mold inspection service team arrives, you can do some preparation to make it easier for you and them. So here are

5 points to know while preparing for a mold inspection –

Don’t Panic

Before moving on to the actual points, it is worthwhile to let you know – Please don’t panic. Mold problems are common and frequently occur in most parts of the provinces. There’s nothing to be scared of. If you saw no symptoms in your body before the inspection, you’ll be fine even after it.
Let the inspection team handle everything. The more you panic, the more chances that you will screw up something.

Don’t Do Anything Special.

You shouldn’t conduct a “Do it yourself” test beforehand. Cleaning up does not preclude an expert’s ability to find areas of suspicion or mold, but it can severely affect the test results. The steps you take will disturb the composition of the mold spread. So, if possible, do not do anything special.

Keep the Area Isolated

Before the inspection, you should try to isolate the area completely. Sealing the area will prevent the spores from spreading around. Suppose the buildup is commonplace, like in the kitchen or bathroom; preferably avoid using it for some time. Also, control the children and pets for the time being.

Stop the Air Circulation

Turn off your HVAC systems or any fans that surround the mold area. Otherwise, the ventilation can cause the spores to become airborne. If you cannot turn off ventilation systems; you can cover the vents. It will lower the air circulation.

Try Not to Clean It

Do not use any cleaning agent in the area. It is a common mistake people make. They use some mold cleaning agent, but unfortunately, it affects the lab results.
Sprays are never a solution to any mold breakout. So avoid using them anyway.

Don’t Touch the Area.

It is common for people to believe that if they tear out the affected area quickly, it will be fine. However, you will likely cause a bigger problem than what you began with, as you will be disturbing the mold and causing millions of mold spores to become airborne and spread throughout your home.

In such a case, the whole structure will host mold problems. This will increase your chances of health problems and lead to a bigger repair bill.
