A lot of DIYs are popular these days to care for jewelry. Here we are going to talk about the most effective ways to clean stainless steel jewelry at home. These hacks are surely going to make your accessories look brand new!
1. Use of Toothpaste –
Did you know this before? Toothpaste is of mild abrasive nature, due to which it can easily bring back the shine of your steel jewelry. It works best for plain steel jewelry having no gems, stones, or crystals on it. It is recommended to use a small amount of toothpaste for cleaning purposes because of its abrasive nature. Also, remember not to use toothpaste for your fine jewelry.
Before using, make sure that the toothpaste is free of silica as it can scratch the jewelry. Even the use of gel toothpaste won’t be effective as it lacks the abrasive nature required for cleaning purposes.
Method –
Use a soft, lint-free cloth and dip it in lukewarm water. Squeeze the excess water out and apply a bit of toothpaste on the cloth. Then gently clean the dirt off. Don’t overuse it, as it can harm your jewelry. Furthermore, remember not to use this method for precious and ion-plated jewelry. You can use a toothbrush as a substitute for the cloth to clean hard to reach corners. At last, rinse and dry the jewel piece.
2. Use Baking Soda Paste –
Baking soda, a great cleaning agent! Be it your house or jewelry; it makes everything bling on. Baking soda can cause grease and dirt to dissolve in water like magic. It also holds the property of mild abrasiveness and hence is not recommended for precious jewelry.
Method-
Prepare a thick paste by mixing one-fourth cup of baking soda with two tablespoons of water. Use a soft toothbrush, preferably a child’s toothbrush, and dip it in the paste. Gently scrub the nooks and corners of your jewelry with the brush. Then rinse the paste with water and dry it.
3. Cleaning with dish soap –
It is considered the best and effective hack to clean jewelry at home. You may not be having silica-free toothpaste or baking soda at home, but dish soap is always available at home. Moreover, it is gentle and can be used for any jewelry.
Method –
Depending on the size of your jewel piece, fill two bowls with lukewarm water. One will be used for cleaning and the other one for rinsing. Add a little amount of dish wash to one of the bowls. Dip your jewelry and a soft cloth in the soapy water and gently rub the jewel piece with the cloth. The moment you notice that the shine is back, rinse and dry it.
