Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: How You Can Do Your Part

There are many ways we can help in saving the environment. Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Here are some of the ways you can try.

Take metal scraps to a junkyard for recycling.

If you don’t know what to do with metal waste such as tin cans, copper wire, or even used cars, you can take them to a recycling center. You can check sites such as JandSMetals.com to know how you can take your junk. They have machines that can process metals brought to them.

Reduce plastic and paper packaging.

When shopping, always take a reusable bag, so you don’t have to consume plastic or paper bags that can end up in the oceans. Should these reusable bags get dirty, you can wash them and use them again afterward.

Stock up on reusable containers.

Reusable containers are cheap. It may be a chore, but when you go grocery shopping, bring these containers so you don’t have to use plastic bags for meat, vegetables, fruits, and other non-packaged products.

Print on both sides of the paper

If you must print multiple pages, always use the backs to conserve paper. You can also reuse those that already have printed on one side. You can print on the other side; you can let your kids draw on them; you can make a list, etc. Trees are the raw paper materials, so you are helping conserve trees if you use used paper.

Use recycled paper

There are paper products made of recycled paper. They may not be as smooth as a new paper, but they can still serve a purpose.

Getting rid of old but still useful furniture? Don’t throw it out just yet. Donate it to charity where someone else can benefit from it. If an item is old but still functional, it can still be useful to somebody who does not have that item.

Use rechargeable batteries

Batteries are one of the worst contributors to pollution. Instead of replacing batteries in your clock, toys, and other battery-operated things, invest in rechargeable ones. They last for a long time with proper use, so you don’t have to dump several into the garbage every time they run out of power.

Make a compost pit.

If you have a yard, you can make a compost pit for leftover food. When you make a pit, you lessen the trash that goes to landfills. It can serve as fertilizer on your soil. You can even grow trees and plants in your yard because the compost will fertilize your soil to enable plants to grow.

Be handy with junk.

If you are handy with things and have the tools, why not make new ones from old ones? You can look up videos on creating stuff from the junk.

Switch to electronic billing.

Paper billing from your utility companies, banks, and the like uses the most paper. Enroll in their electronic billing scheme, so they don’t have to print them on paper.
