Is there Aluminum in Your Deodorant?

Even if you spend your entire day in an air-conditioned space, your body will likely sweat. It is not a secret that sweat gives out a foul odor and whether you are burning calories at the gym or appearing for an important meeting at the workplace, you need some protection against unpleasant odor.

Choosing the right deodorant is as important as putting it on regularly because you would least want to smear toxic cosmetic ingredients under your arm in the form of deodorant. Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about deodorants that contain aluminum. If your bathroom cabinet has only natural and safe products, you must be aware of the aluminum-free deodorant movement. Let us know what the big deal with aluminum is and why more people are choosing invisible deodorant.

Antiperspirants and deodorants

Though most people use both the terms interchangeably, antiperspirant and deodorant are not the same. The function of antiperspirants is to prevent sweat from occurring. Deodorants don’t block an effort by shielding your body from bad odor by killing the bacteria that cause odor. Thus, deodorants make more sense for a more natural process.

However, the concern arises as many personal best-smelling deodorants, contain aluminum as an active ingredient.

What is the harm in using aluminum-containing deodorants or antiperspirants?

The aluminum contents are usually found in antiperspirants as aluminum salts help plug the pores and limit the sweat. However, as we refer to ‘deodorant’ for anything we swipe on our underarms, we fail to realize that they contain aluminum.

Aluminum has always been associated with health issues like breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, bone disorders, and kidney problems. In any case, you should avoid aluminum products, as it is toxic to the body. Sometimes, people are sensitive to undesirable components and irritate their underarms. It is just an allergic reaction to aluminum.

If aluminum is so bad, why is it still used in deodorants?

This is the outcome of multiple studies here and indicates a connection between aluminum and certain diseases. However, these links have not yet been accepted in the scientific and medical communities. A few studies have even failed to indicate a direct link between aluminum and these diseases.

What is the safer way?

With the results of different studies, we cannot ignore the potential danger of health and beauty items that contain aluminum. Natural deodorants do not contain aluminum. Instead, natural ingredients and essential oils are used to make them. Of course, using aluminum-free and natural deodorant is always safer, even if you don’t believe in the aluminum and toxin theory.
