Assassin’s Creed games
Ubisoft is concentrating hard on releasing a new Assassin’s Creed game every year. The company has told Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo that it has three Assassin’s Creed games in development right now, but is doing its best to not let the series collapse from franchise fatigue.
The company plans to do this by giving the development teams a lot of time to bring new features into the game. “We are making sure the teams who are creating the different iterations have enough time—two years, three years, so that they can take risk and they can change the concept enough so that it can be appealing and fresh,” Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot told Kotaku.
Having more than one game in development at the same time means future games will be more polished
As it stands, the three games Guillemot is talking about presumably includes the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and two new titles for the next years.
“Really, what we see is that we can have the capacity to regularly come with innovation,” said Guillemot. “That is, for me, the formula: if you can really change the game on a regular basis and bring in innovation your fans want a product very regularly. Our job is to make sure the teams have enough power, enough energy and enough time to take the necessary steps to create a high quality game.”
The upcoming game—Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag—is taking a step back in the series’ timeline and explores the story of the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed 3’s protagonist. The main theme of the game this time will be a darker and edgier take on the era of pirates. The game is set to come out later this year.[source:tech2]
