Twitter’s smartphone apps updated, now display local Trends

Twitter’s smartphone apps updated

Twitter has updated its apps for Android and iOS with the ability to display local Trends. Twitter introduced local Trends in more than 160 countries in December last year. You can grab the update from Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
The iOS version of the app also has improved playback for videos uploaded to Vine. This comes as no surprise, as the Vine app was also recently updated with performance tweaks and improved playback. This fix isn’t present in the Android version of the app, as Twitter hasn’t released Vine for the platform.

The update brings local trends to both iOS and Android

The last update for the Twitter app for Android completely overhauled the user interface. The new user interface follows the Holo Android style guidelines better than the previous UI. It manages to retain most of the style and actions we’ve come to associate with it.

You can now swipe to switch between the Home, Interactions, Discover and Profile tabs. Interestingly, the swipe function was first released by Twitter for its redesigned Windows Phone app. Since you cannot swipe to bring up quick actions, you will need to tap and hold a tweet to bring up the menu, which will allow you to Retweet or Favourite it.

That update also let iOS users access Twitter Cards. These cards consist of embedded information that pop up within a tweet. When you click on a tweet of this sort, it opens up a drawer that has such content. Tweets with additional information currently have an extra icon with details about the content.
