Whether it’s spring, summer, winter, or fall, when it’s time to go on vacation it helps to make it a healthy one. It’s really not too difficult to plan for a healthy vacation if you just keep a few simple things in mind.
Plan To Get Some Fitness
Fitness on vacation doesn’t have to be about getting to the gym. It’s actually pretty easy to get fitness, no matter what type of vacation plans you have.
Going on a cruise? Spend some time doing laps in the pool. Visiting family? Check out the local terrain or town and do some hiking or walking. There are many ways to get active on vacation, no matter where you are (yes, even on a staycation)!
Eat Healthy While You’re Away
Vacation can be a time when a lot of bad foods may try to cross your lips, but if you go into it determined to eat a healthy diet and make good choices you can stay on track.
When it’s time to go out to eat pass on the fast food and look for healthy restaurant options. If you can’t find anything good on the menu then chose a salad. Grilling is also a great way to get extra grease out of your food and great for summer grub!
Don’t Forget Your Meds
Emergency medications are not always easy to get, so you want to make sure that you don’t forget to pack them. Before it’s time to head out the door, make sure you have enough medications to get through the whole vacation, and get into your doctor if you don’t.
You may also want to make sure that you take some extras with you, like aspirin and antacids. While it may be easy to go out and buy these if you forget to take them with you, even just to save some money.
Know The Nearest Medical Center
While you might not be able to get ahold of forgotten medications easily, you still should know where the nearest medical center is in case of vacation emergencies. Many things can happen on vacation, from breaks to strains and bee stings to poison ivy.
Leave The Stress Behind
Planning your vacation may seem stressful, and you may be worried about the stress you’ll come back to at work. Instead of stressing, don’t worry about what you’re coming back to and think about the relaxation and fun you’ll have on your trip.
Find lots to keep you busy on vacation, but make sure you also give yourself time to relax and just enjoy being yourself. It’s your vacation and if you want to sleep in, do it.
It’s OK to stay healthy on vacation, and you’ll feel better about yourself when vacation is over if you just take some time to stay healthy by getting some fitness and making good food choices.
