Simple Ways to Make Your WordPress Website SEO Friendly

Search engine optimization encompasses many things, but while many people focus purely on building backlinks to their website, on-page optimization is just as important. If you have created a site using the WordPress CMS, you’re in luck as there are several simple things you can do to improve its SEO. We are going to discuss some of these in this article.

Website SEO Friendly

1. Create a Child Theme

Speed is one of the things that Google considers when ranking your website in the search engines. If your site is too slow to load, users will back click on the search engine results pages. Google will then see that your site isn’t user-friendly and move it down in the rankings. One easy way to speed up your site is by creating a child theme.

A child theme basically copies a parent theme and enables you to customize it for your site. The benefit is that you will not need to write excessive code lines, and you’ll still have a lot of flexibility. Avoiding overly coding your site will speed it up. Some plugins can help you do this, but you may also want to speak to a San Francisco SEO company if you’re unsure how to do it yourself.

2. Tags and Meta Tags

Tags and meta tags are used to label a website, and the search engines do take these into account when trying to understand what your site is all about. Because of this, you’ll want to ensure the tags and meta tags on your site are optimized for SEO purposes.

Title tags should ideally be no more than 70 characters long, including spaces. Try to include your keyword and your brand in this limit where possible.

Meta descriptions are the little snippets that show up in the search engines under your headers. Your meta description should describe what the content is about and perhaps include a call to action to encourage people to click. Again, try and include at least one keyword here. Avoid going over 160 characters to ensure they fit in the space.

3. Inner Linking

Finally, it’s also good practice to link to other pages on your website from within the blog posts that you write. This will help users navigate to other pages they may find relevant, and it also helps make indexing much easier.

If you don’t have the time to go through your site searching for relevant pages every time you create a new blog post, several WordPress plugins will do the job for you. Related Posts by Micro kid and WordPress Related Posts are two of the best. Both are completely free to install as well.

While you may want to hire an SEO company to help you build backlinks, it is possible to optimize your on-page SEO yourself. If these tips have helped you, let us know in the comments.
