5 Great Pit-stops on your Mumbai to Pune Road Trip

Road trips should be an essential part of everyone’s existence – especially those who enjoy drives down scenic highways and taking in those parts of nature that remain untouched by an abundance of urbanisation. India in general, is one of the best countries to do a road trip considering how there’s always something happening on any road in any corner. One of the most commonly undertaken and much-loved routes either by a private vehicle or a cab service in Mumbai is the drive between Mumbai and Pune on the famed multi-lane expressway, which is well known for its smooth roads and accompanying visual treats.

Here are the Top 5 pit-stops on your way to the beautiful, quaint city of Pune:

1.Yogayatan Ports, Mankhurd – As you cruise down the Sion-Panvel Highway, you can make a quick stop at the hub of all commercial activity in Mumbai. Ships, in general, are fascinating to look at, and in addition to this, you can take in the sheer beauty of the water that engulfs Maharashtra.

2.Khopoli – A small industrial village at the base of the Sahyadri Mountains, you can make a quick stop here to fuel up on some good Maharashtrian Dhaba food or even poke around for some home decor curios. It takes approximately an hour and 20 minutes when travelling in a taxi from Mumbai to Pune.

3. Lonavala & Khandala :

Arguably one of the most famous tourist spots down this route is the visit to the neighbouring towns of Lonavala and Khandala, two absolutely gorgeous hill stations that have pleasant weather, beautiful scenery and, of course, delicious food. There are several ‘points’ along the mountains that have a plethora of breath-taking views, you can visit them even with a taxi service in Lonavala.

4. Malavli:

Yet another beautiful town, 55km away from Pune that boasts of one of the state’s most magnificent and peaceful spots. Whether it’s the ancient Buddhist excavations or ‘Bhaja Caves’, the centuries old, quaint little railway station tucked away in the village or the majestic Vispur Fort, Malavli and it’s surroundings are the place to be if you really want to connect with nature.

5. Khamshet is by far the most perfect getaway from the city life as this humble little town offers stunning views of the Western Sahyadri Mountains. It’s not exactly on the way to Pune but around 10 – 15 km off the highway. Even so, it is definitely worth taking the detour as it offers some of the most magnificent sights of Mother Nature you will ever come across in Maharashtra.

As you might have heard, sometimes the journey is far better than the destination. These little stops on the way are a fine example of the saying. To add that little extra adventure to your road trip, an exciting pit stop not only makes for a good break but also gets you in the right mind and mood for the rest of your journey.

Make sure you pick a comfortable vehicle or a Mumbai to Pune taxi service, a lot of yummy snack to munch on, your favourite road trip playlist and of course, a good, functioning GPS system!
