PC version of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag delayed

PC version of Assassin’s Creed 4

Ubisoft has revealed, in an interview with ElderGeekDotCom, that the PC version of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will not be released simultaneously with the console versions of the game. The PC version will be out a few weeks later. This comes as no surprise, since the PC version of every Assassin’s Creed game so far has been delayed.

“We’re working hard on the PC version,” Game Director Ashraf Ismail said. “It’s one of the main platforms we’ve worked on in the office … For our PC fans, don’t worry. The game on PC looks phenomenal.”

Ismail also revealed some interesting information about the game. Assassin’s Creed 4 will have a new progression system where players won’t be able to accidentally wander into areas that are beyond their skill levels. Before entering these areas, players will have to upgrade the skills of protagonist Edward Kenway. This is because the game world will be huge; bigger than any other Assassin’s Creed game so far.

Sshhh... I'm hunting pirates...

Assassin’s Creed 4

Back in March, Ubisoft had talked about the themes of the game, namely that it will have a darker and more serious look at the era of piracy. The new Assassin’s Creed game will take place in the pirate era, and the company is going to make the game more serious than the pop-culture go-to examples for anything pirate—Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Ubisoft wants to avoid the clichés that are usually part-and-parcel of pirate fiction. Usually, these involve tropes like Jerk with a Heart of Gold or Awesome McCool Name. Myhill added, “We’re staying away from clichés. Things like walking the plank, parrots on the shoulder and hooks for hands. We are giving pirates the HBO a reality treatment. And that allows us to redefine piracy in entertainment. No longer is it for kids.
