How to open Epub files and other ebooks on PC

Paper books aren’t quite dead yet, but might be circling the drain. Indeed, who wants to carry bulky hard covers or pay $30 for a pile of paper in 2014? One can simply get a basic ebook reader, and voila! – any book comes straight to the pocket at a significantly lower price. Ebook reader comes with a cost though, and if you are not ready to invest in a device used once in a blue moon (like I am), you can consider decent ebook reading software for PC. The point is ebooks come in non-standard formats like EPUB, MOBI, and others. Simple ebook reading programs like IceCream Ebook Reader which I discovered not so long time ago easily solves the problem. Basically, this tool and its alternatives store all your ebooks in a digital library so that you could find a necessary read with ease, and opens those uncommon ebook formats which standard text editors like MS Word can’t handle.

Icecream Ebook Reader features

Actually, this tool perfectly illustrates my idea of a decent ebook reader, and here’s why:
It’s free. It’s a standard download (no registration, SMS, codes or keys, which is something to write home about these days), and you get a full version of the program on the other side.
It’s user friendly. Storing ebook or two on a hard drive doesn’t seem to be a big issue, but trust me, once your ebook collection expands to a certain size, you would beg for a comprehensive and quick way to store and find books. IceCream Ebook Reader is surprisingly well-designed and all the buttons and controls are pretty self-explanatory. It literally took me half a minute to figure it out. There are two convenient library modes (Book Shelf and Table View), and you can switch between them for a comfortable viewing.
It works with popular ebook formats. Most ebooks come in EPUB, MOBI, and FB2 formats, which are easily handled by IceCream Ebook Reader in current version.
It features handy tools for reading. First off, the program has special profiles that you can change depending on a time of the day (precisely, on the lighting conditions). There are profiles for good light, low light and average lighting conditions. Besides, the application allows you to track your reading progress, read in full screen or window modes, change font size, add bookmarks, play with the page layout, and more.

3. Start reading. Using arrow-keys is most comfortable way to turn pages.
4. For most pleasant reading I recommend full screen mode. To do this use icon on the control panel on the right side of the reading area. You can adjust text layout and font size there as well.

Bottom line is, unless you are obsessed with the idea of carrying your ebooks wherever you go, desktop application like IceCream Ebook Reader will totally do the trick. The best thing about this program is the fact that being a pretty basic tool, it somehow handles a lot of tasks and actually gives you everything you need to read EPUB files and other ebooks on PC. The program has a multilingual interface and doesn’t require any specific experience thanks for self-descriptive controls.
