No HTC 8S for US

There is no denying fact that Windows Phone 8 is a great operating system and perfect for someone who is looking for a change from the iPhone or Android interface. The interface is truly amazing and the live tiles do the job, and it has definitely managed to attract a lot of customers according to the amount of sales.

Nokia was the first to actually launch Windows Phone 8 devices, and the most prominent ones include the flagship Lumia 920 which comes with a very good design and a PureView camera which promises excellent low light performance, and then we have a slightly low end model called Lumia 820, which is equally good, but does away with few things in order to achieve a lower price tag. These two devices are being offered by AT&T exclusively, and there are other iterations from Nokia being sold via other carriers. Even HTC has launched two devices, namely the HTC 8X and HTC 8S. The 8X is considered the flagship device and the 8S is the lower end model. HTC 8X is already being sold and can be bought from multiple carriers, but for some reason the HTC 8S is not being offered in the US, and HTC has confirmed that they have no plans to do so either.

If you were hoping to buy a low-end Windows Phone 8 experience from HTC, then you are pretty much out of luck. Below is an official statement from HTC:

“The Windows Phone 8X by HTC is our signature Windows Phone available at AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless in the U.S. With our focus on the Windows Phone 8X by HTC, the Windows Phone 8S is not currently planned for distribution in the U.S. market.”

The logic behind the move seems to be the price point at which other Windows Phone 8 devices were launched at. If you look at the pricing, the HTC 8X is available at $200 for the 16 gig model whereas an AT&T exclusive 8 gig version can be bought for $100 (on a 2 year contract). If you dig up for deals, you will be even able to buy the device at a lower price point than what is mentioned above. If HTC 8S is indeed launched, it would be most probably offered free on-contract, and HTC doesn’t seem to like that idea for some reason.
