LG announces Optimus G Pro for Asian market

LG has officially announced the Optimus G Pro phablet for the Asian market at an event in Macau. The list of countries where the 5.5-inch smartphone will launch includes India, and the handset is being rolled-out from May 30, starting with Hong Kong before being launched in other countries by the end of Q2.
As we had reported last month, the G Pro will launch for around Rs 40,000. When it launches, the G Pro will be available in Indigo Black and Lunar White colours.

The successor to the Optimus G will take on the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 and has the right set of specs to attract buyers. The 5.5-inch IPS display has a pixel density of around 401 pixels per inch thanks to the full HD resolution. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 SoC with a 1.7Ghz quad-core CPU and an Adreno 320 GPU. It has 2GB of RAM. Importantly, to keep the high-spec’d handset going for long, LG has packed in a 3140 mAh battery, which should ideally deliver extended usage. The Optimus G Pro ships with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, with LG’s proprietary Optimus UI running on top

The primary camera on the G Pro is a 13 megapixel snapper, while the front-facing unit is of the 2.1 megapixel variety. In addition to the powerful camera hardware, the Optimus G Pro comes packed with UI features such as Dual Camera and Dual Recording to capture pictures or videos with both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. Further, the camera has a VR Panorama feature, which allows users to shoot entire horizontal and vertical environments for a full 360° view. Users can pause and resume recording to shoot short snippets of video, which can then be viewed as one continuous file.

Just like Samsung’s Smart Pause, LG has Smart Video, which tracks eyes and automatically pauses a video when the viewer looks away and resumes playback when eyes are back on the display.

LG’s Optimus G Pro sets a new benchmark in the over 5-inch display smartphone category which is catching on with consumers everywhere who aren’t interested in owning both a phone and a tablet,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO, LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Asian customers are leading many of today’s technology trends and we’re confident Optimus G Pro will find a large following in this region.
