Title Of Oldest Facebook
The unofficial title of oldest Facebook user now belongs to a New Mexico grandmother named Maria “Mary” Colunia Segura-Metzgar, who this Tuesday celebrated a major milestone — her 105th birthday, according to ABCNews.com.
Segura-Metzgar (left) was born in 1907, before the Internet and even television, but that doesn’t stop her from keeping in touch with friends and family using modern technologies like Facebook. She has her own account on the social network, complete with 86 friends.
At 105 years old, Segura-Metzgar stole the title of oldest Facebook user from 101-year-old Menlo Park, Calif. resident Florence Detlor (below), who gained media popularity after being named Facebook’s oldest user in August. Along with the title, Detlor was even given a personal tour of Facebook’s campus by founder Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg.
But while Segura-Metzgar may actually be the oldest among Facebook’s more than one billion active users, the social network sadly doesn’t even recognize her real age, according to her 60-year-old grandson Anthony Segura, who helped set up her account.
“I tried to sign her up on Facebook a few months ago but it wouldn’t accept her birth date,” Segura told ABC News. “Then I tried again and just put in 101 and it accepted it for the timeline, even though she was 104.”
“Now on Facebook it says she’s 102 when, in reality, she’s 105,” he added.
Facebook did not immediately respond Friday to a request for a comment.
Regardless, Segura-Metzgar uses Facebook to stay connected with her four children and nearly 40 grandchildren. She reportedly uses her grandson’s iPad to log on and update her page, and recently posted photos from her 105th birthday party. But with the recent media attention, she’s also had to turn down the influx of friend requests that keep coming in from strangers.[ Source :- Pcmag ]
