Whether it is just another passing fancy or if brides are getting bored with the traditional white gown, there is one thing that is certain, more and more brides are opting for cosplay bridal dresses. In fact, there have been a great number of weddings where the entire bridal party dressed as characters from the couple’s favorite movie or comic.

Guests are all invited to dress the part as well, sometimes from the same theme and other times they get to come as they wish. If you are planning your big day, you may want to do a bit of searching to see which costumes inspire you. Just be aware of the fact that some of your friends and relatives may not be as open to the idea as you are but, after all, it is your wedding. So enjoy! Following are just a few ideas that have begun making their way around the web.
Katniss and Peeta – Hunger Games
Although the form fitting body suit is what Katniss is most often seen in, brides actually choose the black and gray mini-dress with the black tights and the wide futuristic belt. With calf length boots and hair tied back, brides want to be Katniss but some grooms aren’t too happy dressing the part of Peeta. Even so, there is a lot of fun to be had dressing as the characters in this box office smash that rocked 2012 and was shortly thereafter followed up with Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Setting the Stage at the Grand Ole Opry
While not exactly your normal concept of cosplay, there are a huge number of Country Western fans around the nation and some brides like to walk down the aisle in a square dancing dress complete with knee-high wedding cowgirl boots. The groom comes decked out in a western shirt with mother-of-pearl buttons and of course the ever-present bolo tie. The bridal party all dresses in similar fashion but one wedding with the mother-of-the-bride wearing the iconic Minnie Pearl hat complete with its dangling price tag hanging from the brim was the talk of the town for months on end.
Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker – Star Wars
Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker from Star Wars make the perfect wedding couple, don’t they? Having been a sci-fi favorite for almost 4 decades, and having gone through many incarnations over the years, Star Wars is still one of the few names that consistently come to mind when talking science fiction/fantasy. Since there have been so many sequels and the cast of characters continues to grow, the wedding party will certainly not lack for costume ideas. In fact, if the kids get bored later at the reception, just pull out the Star Wars ‘The Force Awakens’ Legos to keep them busy. Now that’s a thematic wedding!
These three are just a sampling of cosplay wedding ideas that can get you thinking about the role you would like to play at your wedding. Some costumes can be rented and others will need to be bought but with a fantasy wedding, you can go as far as your imagination will take you.
