That’s right, a new plugin called “Unbaby Me” will search your Facebook feed for mentions of babies and replace them with photos of cats. For some, photos of cats are even more annoying than photos of babies, so there is the option to select other images from specific RSS or Instagram feeds.
Unbaby Me said their extension “deletes babies from your newsfeed permanently – by replacing them with awesome stuff.”
Roll over the baby photos on the unbaby.me website, for example, and the images are replaced with photos of cars, surrealist art, dogs, a sea lion, bacon, puppies, and more.
Installing Unbaby Me is a three-step process: click over to Chrome, install the app, allow permissions and you’re in.
The offering has its limitations. Unbaby Me basically just searches your news feed for references to babies or terms that are commonly associated with them. The creators picked a few terms of their own – like so cute, look at these cheeks, birth, mommy, and so forth – but you can select Keywords of your own (see photo below).
As a result, you can set up Unbaby Me to block things like a friend’s fabulous vacation shots while you’re stuck in that cubicle, or drool-worthy shots from foodie friends while you’re on a diet. I added “breakfast” to the list and it switched out a friend’s shot of her breakfast with an LOLcat-esque image.
Again, it would probably just be easier to minimize the feeds of those whose posts might irritate you to the point of installing a plugin to block their updates.
