Check out iPhone and iPad
People knowledgeable about mobile devices know that Apple introduced the iPhone a little over five years ago and the iPad only three years ago, which is relatively recent in the company’s 30-year history. The iPhone and iPad are really a small blip in the overall history of the company, but they are a very successful blip.
Details of iPhone and iPad
You may appreciate that the iPhone and iPad are somewhat new products for Apple, but it is really striking when you can see it visually in a chart. Thanks to Pop Chart Labs and its comprehensive chart of Apple’s products, we can see how the iPhone and iPad fit into Apple’s product portfolio. The handheld section on the far right is very small and is dominated by iPod models, until most recently when Apple introduced its two iOS devices.
Chart of iPhone and iPad
Admittedly, the chart is missing the 2012 models of the iPhone and iPad, but that doesn’t diminish the fact that Apple has only produced nine models of these iOS devices over a five-year span. Apple may have a short history in the mobile device market, but it is wildly successful. Earlier this year, Strategy Analytics estimated that, in five short years, Apple has shipped 250 million iPhones cumulatively worldwide and has earned $150 billion in cumulative revenues from the device. Though revenue is not available for the iPad, Apple has sold 84 million iPads since the device debuted in 2010.
