Check out Latest Games FOR Mac users
The Mac has got the sex appeal, the style the class and not to mention the minimalist lines to make any design studio complete. What it lacks in though, quite sorely, is good quality gaming, which is something the good ‘ol PC gets full marks in. So we’ve dug around for some quality titles you can game around on your Mac Pro, to your Macbook Air, right down to the iMac and Mac Mini. All of these games can be purchased off the cloud from Steam.
The Orange Box
This oddly named game is actually super compilation of a helluva lot of fantastic games from Valve. Packed with Half Life 2, Episode One, Two, Team Fortress 2 and the original Portal. All of these are top 10/10 tiered games built on Valve’s own stellar Source Engine, and can be scaled down to look sexy even on your MacBook Air to play on the go. This is gaming at its finest.
One of the most innovative and definitely the funniest games makes it to the Mac. Again from the competent crew at Valve, Portal 2 takes demented puzzle solving into another dimension, literally. With an insane cast of charact… sorry, robots, one of them voiced by Stephen Merchant. The writing of this game is top notch and will have you in splits. The puzzle sections are intense and the co-op with a friend is wicked.
Once the dark, eerie and beautiful world of Limbo has its creep hooks onto you, there’s no coming back from this. A 2D Mario-like adventure told in a beautiful black and white world, like watching an old movie, where everything is just a silouette. A fantastic indie game available at a steal.
Assassins Creed II + Brotherhood
Follow the life of Ezio Auditore, starting with Assassins Creed II and then into Assassins Creed II: Brotherhood. Two of the biggest selling games comes Macside as you take that hardware out for a spin in the form of free-running across renaissance-era Italy. The narrative works as a projection into the memories of a descendant of one of the Assassins. This game is a must play, and it looks excellent on your Mac’s IPS display. However a beefy rig is required to play this.
Sid Mier’s Civilisation series is no stranger to gaming and has a very strong fan base of die-hard players. Finally you can build your empire from start to finish in this legendary top down city/era sim.
It’s good to see a lot of Indie studios focussing on the Mac. Trine 2 is one of the newest releases in the gaming world to be also released on the mac simultaneously. A colourful very good looking physics-based platformer where you switch between a thief, warrior or wizard to overcome obstacles. The art style is wild.
Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City + San Andreas
Okay, so this isn’t GTA IV, even though it’s been out for years its not out for the Mac. Before you recoil at horror at the Grand Theft Auto III series, let me point out that these are three classic, killer games. Even though you may argue that they look dated, but that means that they can run on any of your portable Mac devices. A game like San Andreas is packed to the brim with so many things to do that you can just open your Macbook when on a flight and game away.
If you loved Diablo, and you crave some top down, good old fashioned RPG action, then look no further than Torchlight, made by indie studio Runic Games. Torchlight has tonnes of hours of play, reply and lots of loot to collect, with a very charming art style and some really good effects.
World of Warcraft
The most successful MMORPG in the world is available on the mac. Blizzard’s World of Warcraft has over 10.2 million subscribers hacking and slashing it out. So if you are looking at investing a lot of time in a MMO, look no further. With modest system requirements, WoW can run on any Mac.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
No game collection is complete without your token psycologically demented, horror game. Amnesia: The Dark Descent steps in to fill that void with a dark first person survival horror game with an excellent setting and story to give you the heebie jeebies.
Tales of Monkey Island Complete Pack
Monkey Island has been around, an age old quality adventure game about wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood. Tales of Monkey Island is the new game in the series, and was originally in an episodic format, now available in a complete format on your Mac.
It’s pretty ironic that back in the day the Mac was leading in multiplayer fun with Bungie’s Marathon. Today, the poor Mac has to sit on the reserves bench as the cool kids play. Finally now you can join in on the fun in de_dust, with Counterstrike Source, still one of the hottest multiplayer games out today.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
StarCraft II, the sequel to the hit real-time strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment is available for Mac users via battle.net. It’s one of the most successful game franchises in the world. The original StarCraft, launched in 1998, is still played like a national sport in South Korea. SC II is a must have for fans of RTS and online multiplayer.
Diablo III is launching next month, and until that happens you can revisit Diablo II as you dungeon crawl right down to the depths of hell, dealing death to the craven, evil demons. Diablo II is choc full of replayablilty as you can explore the game through any of the playable races.
