Hottest phones: Though many smartphones have been announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012, but only some phones have managed to catch our attention. Here is our pick of phones announced at the MWC 2012.
Nokia has unveiled a new smartphone – the Nokia 808 PureView – at the MWC 2012, which has a 41 megapixel camera sensor with Carl Zeiss optics. Yes, you read it right. It’s 41 megapixel! As you might have speculated, the 41-megapixel sensor does not mean shooting pictures the size of billboards. Instead, it’s about creating pictures at normal, manageable sizes.The large sensor enables pixel oversampling, which means to combine up to seven pixels into one “pure” pixel, thereby eliminating the visual noise.
Samsung doffed the silk off its new projector smartphone – the Galaxy Beam – which is an Android 2.3 smartphone with a built-in projector at the MWC 2012. Powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, the phone has a 4.0-inch (480×800) TFT display. The phone has a 5 megapixel autofocus rear camera with flash and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. The Samsung Galaxy Beam’s 15 lumens projector allows users to display and share multimedia content anywhere on a large luminous projector screen – walls, ceilings or improvised flat surfaces.
Taiwan’s HTC Corp, the world’s No. 5 smartphone maker, launched a range of models at the MWC 2012. The HTC One series consists of three models, the One X, One S and One V, running the latest version of Google’s Android software. The phones feature HTC’s ImageSense camera technology that the company says offers photography on a par with traditional digital cameras, including fast autofocus and low-light shooting.

Sony at the Barcelona Mobile World Congress unveiled two new Android-powered smartphones, Xperia P and Xperia U, carrying the Sony brand.
Nokia unveiled a new, cheaper smartphone using Microsoft’s Windows Phone software at the MWC 2012. Nokia said its new Lumia 610 model would carry a price tag of 189 euros ($250), excluding subsidies and taxes, when it goes on sale next quarter. The Lumia 610 has an 800MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, and a 5-megapixel camera. Reportedly, it will run an updated version of Windows Phone 7.5, codenamed Tango. The phone comes in white, cyan, magenta and black, and is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of 2012.
LG unveiled its first Quad-Core processor smartphone – LG Optimus 4X HD. Powered by 1.5GHz Quad-Core processor (NVIDIA Tegra 3), the phone features a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display with a pixel resolution of 1280 x 720.
Nokia has announced three more Asha feature phones – Nokia Asha 202, Asha 203 and Asha 302 – at the Mobile World Congress, which is currently underway in Barcelona, Spain. Nokia Asha 302 is Nokia’s first Series 40 phone to support Mail for Exchange, giving people access to their emails, contacts and calendar on an exchange server. It has a Qwerty keypad and a 2.4 inch display. The Nokia Asha 302 is powered by a 1 GHz processor. It offers 3G and WiFi connectivity and a 3.2 megapixel camera. Shipment of Nokia Asha 302 has already been started and the device is priced at EUR 95 or approximately Rs 6,300. Nokia’s Asha 202 and 203 phones will come with a traditional keypad with a 2.4 inch touchscreen.
LG unveiled the Optimus 3D Max, which is another 3D smartphone for Korean and international markets. The company also announced the Optimus 3D Cube. Reportedly, both the phones are exactly the same, but the Cube has 16GB storage and a 4.3-inch Nova IPS display, whereas the Max has 8GB storage and “LG’s exclusive brightened” WVGA 4.3-inch display.

LG unveiled one of the most anticipated LTE devices, the Optimus Vu. Equipped with LG’s LTE and IPS display technology, the Optimus Vu is touted to offer a combination of tablet-like viewing with smartphone portability.
Huawei announced its fastest smartphone ever at the the MWC 2012. Dubbed Ascend D Quad, the smartphone will come powered by a quad core processor, and will run Android 4.0 operating system. IT features a 4.5 inch 720p high definition touchscreen display with 330 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution.
LG announced three new L-styled Android smartphones which will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2012 that is starting this weekend. The new LG smartphones have been named as Optimus L3, Optimus L5 and Optimus L7.13.
LG announced the Optimus LTE Tag, which features a 4.3-inch IPS display with a pixel resolution of 800 x 480. The phone is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread (with the option to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich later). The Optimus LTE Tag is available in white. It sports a 5 megapixel rear camera with Auto focus-LED Flash and a 1.3 megapixel front camera. The phone has a 1,700mAh battery.
