Did you indulge at the Super Bowl party last night? Maybe you’re still trying to work off the excesses of the holidays. Well, here’s a dieting tool that’s quite breathtaking — literally.

Created by four Ph.Ds, mostly from Arizona State University, Breezing is a portable device that measures your metabolism using a method called indirect calorimetry. It analyzes your rates of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production.

You breathe into the mouse-size gadget that contains a sensor cartridge. It gauges your resting energy expenditure (REE), the metabolic rate indicating how quickly you’re burning calories at rest. If you’re trying to slim down, the faster the better.

It also tracks your respiratory quotient, showing whether you’re burning carbs, fats, or a mix of both.

The data are transmitted to your smartphone or mobile device via Bluetooth and displayed in a Breezing app, which tracks your calories burned and dieting progress over time.

Natch, you can send all that info to all your friends via e-mail or Facebook or whatever, should you so desire.

The gizmo is touted as the first of its kind in the world, and the developers are emphasizing the importance of metabolism tracking.

“For most people, 70-80 percent of the calories you burn comes from metabolism — not exercise,” the campaign page says.

Breezing is being offered for $250 in an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign that hopes to raise $100,000. Advertised delivery is May 2013.

But that $250 only gets you 10 sensor cartridges and each is only good for one use, according to the product specs. A pledge of $400 will get you the Breezing device, extra mouthpieces, and 40 sensor cartridges.

So you’ll have to keep buying cartridges to use it. Still, if the thing works and actually helps you lose weight, paying several dollars for extra cartridges would seem worth it.

What do you think? Would you try this?

Which school has got the better theatre program?

I have learned that both of them are excellent, however for different reasons.

I heard U of the concentrates on an actor’s crafts and everybody within the program is definitely casted inside a play.

From ASU I heard there is a better overall status and so they have better networking.

Therefore if money wasn’t an problem which is much better?
