Sony Xperia Tablet Z on pre-order

Sony’s water and dust resistant Xperia Tablet Z has gone up for pre-order on Flipkart for a price of Rs 44,990. The pre-order listing says the tablet should be available in the first week of June and the pre-order price includes a Rs 2,000 discount over the actual price.

Earlier this week we had reported that the tablet was launched in India for Rs 38,990, following a global launch. However, after having a word with Sony about the disparity in price, we were told that the tablet has not been launched in India yet and officially, there is no release date. However, we were also informed that it will be coming soon.

The 10.1-inch Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-running tablet’s global version was unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress. At just 6.9 mm in depth, Sony claims the Tablet Z is the thinnest in its category and the fact that there’s a full HD display on top only makes it more attractive. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz. The Xperia Tablet Z is IP55 and IP57-certified, which means it can be immersed in up to three feet of water for up to 30 minute and is also impervious to dust.

The 8 megapixel rear camera features an Exmor R sensor and the 2 megapixel front-facing camera sounds good enough for self-shots and video chatting. The tablet comes with Sony’s S-Force Front Surround 3D, while Sony’s Clear Audio+ mode and the two built-in speakers help the tablet deliver amazing sound no matter how it is held, claims Sony. The Xperia Tablet Z also offers a microSD card slot for up to 64GB of expandable storage.

It includes Sony’s Near Field Communication (NFC) One-Touch functions, which allow users to transfer content among compatible devices, including audio, video and images. In addition, the Universal IR Remote allows users to control their TVs and other Sony devices as well as products from other manufacturers directly with the tablet.
