Super Bowl Sunday
Super Bowl fans took to the Internet yesterday to search for both people and products highlighted during the big game.
Sponsor M&M was the top search item on Google as it tried to woo people with its “Love Ballad” commercial. Singer Beyonce, who performed during the halftime show, took second place.
The teams actually competing in the game were next, with the Baltimore Ravens No. 3 and the San Francisco 49ers No. 4. And 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick rounded out the top five list.
Other searches that popped up on Google’s radar included the half-hour power outage that put the game on hold and sponsor Chrysler whose “Whole Again” commercial spot narrated by Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to troops serving abroad.
After Kaepernick, the players who scored high on Google searches were Joe Flacco, Michael Oher, David Akers, and Jacoby Jones. People also searched for Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and his brother, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. Though the Ravens took home the trophy, Jim outscored his brother in searches.
And beyond the M&M and Chrysler ads, other spots that triggered a host of searches were the ones for Mercedes-Benz, Lincoln, Audi, and the upcoming Disney film “Oz the Great and Powerful.”
Super Bowl-related searches on Yahoo also kicked off some of the same results.
The top two searches on Yahoo during the game related to the power outage.
Beyonce was also high on the list, with Yahoo reporting that searches for the singer surged 7,236 percent yesterday. Other Super Bowl performers high in the search ranks were Jennifer Hudson and Destiny’s Child.
Searches for Dodge’s “God Made A Farmer” commercial spiked 1,722 percent, making it the most searched for ad on Yahoo. Taco Bell’s “Viva Young” commercial took second place among ads, followed by the Go Daddy spot that fulfilled every nerd’s fantasy with a hot kiss from a sexy supermodel.[source:cnet]
