Learn Mapping with Google with this online course
Google wants you to be able to make optimum use of its mapping technology. In order to help you create and share custom maps using its technology, Google has started an online course called Mapping with Google.
The course will be offered for two weeks between June 10 and June 24, but is supposed to be a “self-paced, online course developed to help you better navigate the world” by getting you to improve your use of the new Google Maps, Maps Engine Lite and Google Earth. As a bonus token, everyone who signs up for this course will receive an invitation to preview the new Google Maps.
An online course to teach you Mapping with Google
The course will feature video and text lessons, activities and projects to teach participants the nuances of custom creation of maps and sharing them. “You’ll learn to do much more than look up directions or find your house from outer space,” wrote Tina Ornduff, Program Manager at Google Maps, in a blog post announcing the course. “Tell a story of your favorite locations with rich 3D imagery, or plot sights to see on your upcoming trip and share with your travel buddies.”
Google will be offering lectures by experts and a chance to collaborate with participants from all around the world via Google+ Hangouts and a course forum. You can choose between exploring the features of Google Maps, Google Earth or both. You will also have the option of completing a project and applying the skills you’ve learnt in order to earn a certificate.
When you try to sign up for the course, Google will ask you some basic questions, the first of which is mandatory.
- What goal do you hope to achieve by signing up for this course?
- How have you used Google Maps in the past?
- How have you used Google Earth in the past?
The first question is compulsory for all aspiring candidates. The Google Maps course will be taught by Google Maps Product Managers Daniel Demetri and Beth Liebert and the Google Earth one will be taught by Peter Birch.
If you’re excited already, you can sign up for the course by logging on to g.co/mappingcourse.
