DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2 for PlayStation 4
Sony will bring two popular free-to-play games to the PlayStation 4—DC Universe Online and PlanetSide 2, according to IGN. The company had earlier announced that the PlayStation 4 will let you buy games of all price ranges, right from full-priced $60 games to free-to-play titles.
DC Universe Online is a surprising addition to the PS4’s portfolio, as it was originally a PlayStation 3 game. However, since there is also a PC version of the game, porting shouldn’t be too much of a problem thanks to the PS4’s x86 architecture. The same applies to PlanetSide 2, which is a PC-exclusive massively-multiplayer first-person shooter.
While most multiplayer shooters are based on a match-making or server system, what sets PlanetSide 2 apart is the game’s single persistent world. This means that things will continue to happen even when you aren’t playing, and the next time you play, you could be logging-in to a radically different world with completely different borders.
The MMOFPS is making its way to the PlayStation 4
The main aim of the game is to capture territories for your faction. When creating a character, players can pick from one of three factions—the Terran Republic, the New Conglomerate, and the Vanu Sovereignty. You can set up your own loadouts as you level up and unlock more weapons. The playable classes are Light Assault, Heavy Assault, Medic, Engineer, Infiltrator and Mechanized Assault Exo-Suit (MAX).
DC Universe Online is an MMORPG that lets players create their own superheroes in the DC universe and take part in adventures alongside popular superheroes and villains such as Superman, Batman, Joker and Lex Luthor. Instead of the standard hotkey-based combat in MMORPGs like World of Warcraft, DC Universe Online opts for a more action-oriented combat system.
Sony earlier revealed that another free-to-play game—Blacklight: Retribution—will be making its way to the PS4. Blacklight: Retribution was launched on the PC last year to good reception, and the player count has already crossed the two million mark. The game is set in the near future and allows players to customise their characters and weapons in deeper ways than is usual for the genre.[source:tech2]
